If you are thinking about renovating certain areas of your home, you are probably already aware that it can cost a lot of money. The price tag may be putting you off, but don’t rule it out just yet. The good news is that there are many things you can do to make remodeling areas of your home a lot more cost-effective.
Here are 4 ways to save money on home renovations.
Do some of the work yourself
The most costly element of any home renovations bill is the labor costs and, depending on what you are having done, professional fees you may accrue for architects, engineers, etc. Although you can’t do much in terms of the latter if the job isn’t too difficult. And you may be able to do elements yourself, which could save you a heap of cash.
You will, of course, need to know the basics and, for safety reasons, know how to use power tools, but there is no reason you can’t learn and take on a project yourself. Youtube is a great resource, or why not find out if there are any classes in your area that would help teach you the skills needed to do the renovations you have in mind.
Don’t rule out comparable alternatives
Whether you have your heart set on a particular kitchen or you long to have wall-to-wall bi-fold doors leading from your home to your garden. And there are ways to get the products you want but not spend as much.
For example, ready to assemble kitchen cabinets (otherwise known as RTA kitchen cabinets), are of comparable quality but are more cost-effective because you have to construct them yourself. Ex-display products are another quality alternative. Or why not look at products and ranges which are being discontinued and substantially discounted?
You don’t have to use only one supplier
Although it can be easier to get everything you need from one place, you may end up paying a premium. Instead, it’s worth shopping around to see if you can find comparable products elsewhere. Here’s an example: You are doing a bathroom remodel, so visit the showroom where you see the bathroom suite of your dreams. Chances are they will sell all the other elements that you might need, such as taps, tiles, and specialist flooring. You may find the same taps online a lot cheaper. Or you may find tiles in a discount tile store across the road. Doing a bit of pricing research might take longer but could save you hundreds for a reasonably sized project.
Wait for the sales
All stores offer huge discounts at certain times of the year. So, even if you aren’t considering starting your renovations for another nine months. And you could save lots of money buying during sale periods.
You are not purchasing products that will deteriorate over time. So as long as you have somewhere to store the goods, then there’s no reason that you can’t buy in advance and reap the rewards.
